Senate report finds Russian election meddling, no mention of collusion

On Tuesday, the Senate Intelligence Committee released a bipartisan report concluding it agreed with the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) that found the Russian government meddled in the 2016 general election to favor a Trump presidency. However, the report failed to mention any evidence of Russian collusion.

“The Committee has spent the last 16 months reviewing the sources, tradecraft and analytic work underpinning the Intelligence Community Assessment and sees no reason to dispute the conclusions,” said Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.). “The Committee continues its investigation and I am hopeful that this installment of the Committee’s work will soon be followed by additional summaries providing the American people with clarity around Russia’s activities regarding U.S. elections.”

Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.) added, “The Russian effort was extensive and sophisticated, and its goals were to undermine public faith in the democratic process, to hurt Secretary Clinton and to help Donald Trump.”

So, what does it mean when the report says the Russians interfered in the election? According to the report, the Russians engaged in an information warfare campaign, one that actively promoted Republican candidates and views and offered criticisms of Democrats and their party platform.

While it is extremely troubling that the Russians interfered in our election, the bottom line is this: if there was no damning information on the Democrats to report, the Russians would not have been able to meddle.

Back in March, the House Intelligence Committee reported it found no evidence of collusion after a 14-month investigation.

So, why is the Senate committee still investigating collusion?

Furthermore, Special Counsel Robert Mueller was hired over a year ago with the very narrow purpose of investigating any Trump ties to the Russian government. He hasn’t found any.

So, why is Mueller’s investigation still ongoing?

Report after report has come out from various government agencies, but no one has concluded there is evidence of collusion. Meanwhile, government resources keep being poured into these ceaseless investigations.
