Democrats went crazy on social media after President Donald Trump’s administration tested its emergency alert system Wednesday.
Cell phone users across the country all received the following message at 2:18 p.m. ET, “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” A few minutes later, televisions and radios broadcast test alerts. In case of a real emergency, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would broadcast such an alert.
Liberals such as Michael Moore and David Hogg took to Twitter to equate the test to a horrific totalitarian government.
Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore tweeted, “It was just a test. But make no mistake about it. This is the world in which we now live.’ That’s my final line in ‘Fahrenheit 11/9.’ A few minutes ago, Trump gave us a preview of the state of emergency he is creating to justify the end of democracy as we know it. RESIST!”

Parkland shooting survivor and liberal activist David Hogg tweeted “just wait until Trump comes out with an off switch for all news outlets because ‘fake news’ it’s [sic] to national security.” Hogg subsequently deleted that tweet and replaced it with a single line:
Y’all ever read 1984?

But maybe they should do some research first. The law that approved this system was approved by Congress in 2015, when Obama was president.
The law authorizing the wireless emergency alerts (WEA) system specifically states the “system shall not be used to transmit a message that does not relate to a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster or threat to public safety.” President Trump is limited in content to what he can use the system for.
All the overreaction is unwarranted. Everyone, just relax.
