Joe Biden: ‘I’m the most qualified person in the country to be president’

Former Vice President Joe Biden has amped up his rhetoric regarding a presidential run in 2020. Speaking during a stop on his book tour at the University of Montana in Missoula on Monday, Biden said, “I’ll be as straight with you as I can. I think I’m the most qualified person in the country to be president.”

“No one should run for the job unless they believe that they would be qualified doing the job. I’ve been doing this my whole adult life, and the issues that are the most consequential relating to the plight of the middle class and our foreign policy are things that I have — even my critics would acknowledge, I may not be right but I know a great deal about it,” Biden added.

Biden said he would decide within the next two months whether he truly wants to embark on a third presidential run.

“I have two young grandchildren my son left who love me and adore me and want me around. I want to be there to take care of them, so we’ve got to figure out whether or not this is something we can all do as a family,” he said.

The real problem with Biden, 74, leading the Democratic Party is his age being so unreflective of the typical Democratic voter.

That said, a June poll revealed that Biden is the front runner among Democrats in 2020. Of course, this poll was conducted before the November midterm elections and the nation’s infatuation with young and energetic Texas candidate Beto O’Rourke.

A ticket with Biden and O’Rourke is not out of the question. It would combine experience with the youthful energy the Democratic Party so desperately needs to come into play in its leadership.

However, there is no guarantee Biden can make it out of the presumably large pool of Democratic candidates that will challenge for the primary. Biden may very well appeal to Independent voters and some #NeverTrump Republicans, but the question is whether he will even get to the point where he directly challenges President Trump.
